Redoing Tank.

How did you make that cave? also, you have driftwood in there... I'm a new axie owner. Do you have to do anything to rocks and wood in order to make them safe to put in a tank? (don't worry I haven't tried it yet!)
Thanks

Blaze, have LOVED the updates, Im currently pacing waiting on the delivery of a new 3ft tank and can't wait to get started on the set up! You have some great tips  Where did you pick up the slate from? Im in Brisbane also. What type of rocks did you use for the base of the hides?
Im sure Sunny is loving the new environment.

From the looks of the pics (awesome cave by the way), its glued with what I can only assume is aquarium-safe silicon. The rocks shouldnt be a problem as far as I know unless they have very special minerals in them right?

Blaze, Sunny's tank looks great! I did really like that driftwood too, has that been added back in with the cave? I tried siliconing a cave like that and it fell apart after about a week in the water...:( I think the silicone was old or something...Anyway, yours looks great!

I think Sunny is the most spoiled axolotl I "know"!! :D

Sorry I havn't replied yet guys!

Okay so with anything you need to soak it in decholrinated water for at least a week and scrub it well. Driftwood may need to be boiled or let sit for a few weeks so the tannins don't make your water yellow. I got mine from the local river so it was already soaked.
The cave is made by sticking two large river rocks onto a piece of slate with Aquarium safe silicon and letting it cure for a week.
I got the slate from Tile Mob at Michelton.
The driftwood has been taken out as I was after the more stone effect.

Thanks heaps for your comments guys, I am very proud of Sunnys tank and he is spoilt to bits!
Overall i've spent $1250 on his tank :O and he needs a new custom made stand :O :O!!!

He adores me enough to spend a few hours every night staring at me from his tank haha.
I found my old window art. It's sort of like a glue that sticks to plastic but comes off and can be transfered to other windows so I did his name and put it on the tank :)
He also had a piece of cardboard I cut out of a box that said KEEP ME COOL and another that was from a box of Sunny Boys which he was named after :)

Haha, that is so cute! your little guy sounds very spoilt !! :) love your tank set up by the way! and how you have put pictures of the stages.

He really is my baby :)

I thought it'd be good to show everyone the steps I did to change the tank around, hope you all enjoyed it!

Awesome tank Blaze! Im sure Sunny will be very happy
Where did you get the slate from? Im in Brisbane too and just about to start my own construction! It's really hard deciding on what you think your axies would enjoy... far too many good hints/tips on here..
