Photo: Ray & Kai Photo diary

Great pictures.
Axolotls are just so adorable, and your two are perfect examples. :D

Haha, thank you! I love their individual personalities, they're so amazing!

As you can see, Rey REALLY likes her worms
& Kai - well, he just really likes chilling on the fake plants. :D

They're now both over 4 inches long! My little babies are growing FAST.

Great pictures.
Both Rey and Kai are looking really well.
I nearly spat my coffee over my laptop at the worm picture. :D

Kai's gill is really worrying me.. It looks like it's been bitten again or something. It's the top gill-stalk on the right side.
Before, the 'feathery' bits were growing back nicely and you could clearly see it healing - yet now it looks bare and damaged again.
I did actually see Rey accidentally nip at Kai's gills last night, she was going for his worm piece :/ but it seems like this gill issue has happened over the past few days.

Perhaps I'm just being paranoid. I'll re-check the water parameters, just to triple check.
No harm in being extra cautious!

Any thoughts, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Great photos. Your little ones are so cute.
I see AuntieJude has answered your gill question. Great to know that everything is fine.

Thanks Donna! I am totally in love with them, my little water babies.
Yeah, I'm relieved to know it's not something sinister but also rather concerned that Rey has chomped on her sibling. Hoping this little accident won't be happening again, fingers crossed!

They do grow out of it as they get older, so don't worry too much.

Rey has nipped Kai again, on his back this time - poor baby has a red mark. I hope this nipping will stop once they've been moved into a bigger tank.

Their gills seem less 'feathery' to me, but after some research apparently it's most likely that their gills are reacting to the amount of oxygen in the water, as it's happened slowly over the period of a month. I'd just like to say, their gills aren't damaged (except Kai's nipped gill stalk) or receding/eroding or anything (as you can see in the pictures) they're simply not as fluffy if that makes any sense. I will keep a close eye on them though, and keep doing my daily water changes.

I couldn't be prouder of how much they've grown and how sweet they are.

I'm excited to be able to upgrade them into a bigger tank soon. I can't wait to see how they react to having more space :p

I'm so pleased to see them looking happy, fat and healthy!

Rey & Kai are now in their new tank!!!
They're absolutely loving having so much space. :p They look so very tiny in this tank. I have to search to find them LOL!
The tank isn't complete right now, over time I'll be adding better decor and more hides/logs/plants. For now though, this is great! A huge upgrade from their baby tank.

An extra special thanks to the absolutely lovely Donna001 for everything she's done for me, Rey & Kai. :D

Also, if all goes to plan, I'll be getting a copper juvenile soon. Which will be absolutely lovely, I'm beyond excited!

Your tank looks fantastic, lots of places for your little ones to explore.
Great photos of Rey and Kai, they still look so adorable.
When you get your copper please post lots and lots of pictures, I can't wait to see your new arrival.
:D

Introducing my new copper juvenile - Jin.

What an absolute little stunner! His tail is a little funky, but it makes him even more special to me.

Rey & Kai have just accepted him as if he's been there all along.

Such a cute little axolotl family :D

Congratulations on your new addition, Jin is so cute. He's adorable. :D
Great to hear that he has fitted in well and that Rey and Kai have accepted him immediately. That couldn't have gone any better.
Fantastic photos of an amazing collection of cuties. :D

My three beautiful babies are doing great :D Rey & Kai are just over 5 inches, little Jin is roughly 4 1/2 inches. Jin's got a long, slender body - similar to how Rey was a few months ago. Adorable!

Enjoy some super cute pictures of my little gang :p

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
