Just wanted to share my recent experience with using ZooMed's axolotl pellets and was curious if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

When I use pellets (night crawlers aren't available year-round here and I like to keep them in the rotation the rest of the year so my axolotls don't go off them), I've used both Invert Aquatics and, more recently, Rangen and my axolotls really seem to like them! I had the opportunity to recently try out some ZooMed pellets though, and I'm glad I bought a small bottle. My axolotls like them well enough, and eat them quickly, but:

Ever since I started using them, I've had huge (in my mind) levels of detritus worms in all four of my tanks, and the only thing that has changed (to the best of my knowledge) is the pellets. I know detritus worms aren't necessarily "bad" in and of themselves, but rather an indicator of poor water quality, but frankly, they're just gross and I want them gone! My cleaning schedule has remained consistent and all of my water quality tests look pretty normal. If anything, I've started cleaning a little more since this has happened.

I've had axolotls for about 5 years at this point and never, not once, had noticeable levels of detritus worms and now they're everywhere, in all of my tanks. Anyone else have this issue with ZooMed or any other variety? Are they just...messier? Anything else that would likely affect this? Should note, I use modified Holtfretter's since the water in my area is soft.

Zoomed axolotl pellets are nearly identical or identical to Rangen soft moist salmon pellets.

My bad. Zoomed axolotl pellet formula changed in the last year or so but it is similar to Rangen. Just back off on feeding a little and the detritus worm population should shrink down a little

an issue to be noted with zoomed axolotl food is that they list copper sulfate as an ingredient.

A more widespread issue with pellets is that they contain not only nutrients, but also ingredients whose role is to maintain the shape and consistency of the pellet, and which are poorly or not digested by the axolotl (or fish).
Example : wheat gluten or other vegetable proteins ...
