planted with fish

i found this in the kuhli description...

..Like most loaches they have subocular spines, which retract, into slots.

what are those?

always the way lol

p.s. thanks for the rep, i was wondering what the green blobs were :)

found it... The fish in these genera possess a pair of razor-sharp spines under their eye sockets. These spines normally lie flat, but may be extended when the loach feels threathened.

i think thats the funny name for their thin tongue they use to eat snails but this is usually related to the botia family (clown loach)

I think we posted over each other - go up one to see what subocular spines are...

ah that makes sense now, ocular- orbit- eyes-
sub- under

under-eye-spines i have read it a few times but just passed it off as the tongue and not really thought about what it was saying :(

just had a quick read and it is only the botia family that have the thin tongue where as weathers are part of the other family that i can not remember for the life of me or find as i know that Cobitidae contains both botia and another species in 2 seperate sub species

so this is weather loach disqualified then as its too spiky

just out of interest where did you find the subocular part as it would be a good read

check your PMs - I think we should take this to PMs or visitor messages or the chat room to avoid infractions.
