Pillbugs and other Isopods by Orin Mcmonigle , Coachwip publications isbn 1 61646 207 8
isbn 13 978 1 61646 207 9
This 99 page hardcover book on isopods is a must read for beginner and advanced vivarium keepers alike. It explains the morphology and life cycles of isopods. Keeping and breeding techniques are well explained. Uses for feeders, clean up crews, and as pets are covered. Their is also an interesting section on line breeding for different colors.
The photographs in the book are fantastic. Most types of isopods kept by hobbyists are shown in the photos. Life cycles and details of how husbandry varies a little for each type is well covered. The main use of isopods for salamanders set ups is as supplemental food. They are also valuable as clean up crews.
Orin does a great job with this book. It is worth the price for the photos alone. It fills a hole in the literature at the hobbyist level. Their is a lot of great advice that will help you avoid some of the problems of breeding isopods.
The book is available on Amazon
