Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

The Super-Taricha photo is really funny. I also had to laugh at Ben Thesing's photo of the belly-side of Eurycea multiplicata, as I imagine what my coworkers would say. They already say that the Caudata calendar in my office is "kinda gross". I would be happy to have this photo in the calendar, but certain people would probably never come into my office again!

awesome stuff. The Supertaricha definitely has to be in there. I also think the Lyciasalamandra and the S.atra with the yellow spots is cool. And the spectacled sal doing the defensive cartwheel. Totally awesome.I love it when we get pics of species that are not often photographed.

Really amazing intros this year, love Mario's Ambystomid pictures! Truly Divine!
Sadly I cant make a selection on my own and I seriously don't know what the team is looking for this year for the calendar. I have multiple shots on a to z genders/species but no clue what is the most seek type of shot...
I'll take some suggestions! http://www.flickr.com/photos/54672057@N04/sets/
Cheers,

Dear Joost, is that a Mie Prefecture fire belly?

Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

Really pleased to see some great entries in the last few days. Tim Herman's photos are not only great, but the species in the photos are so unusual!

Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

More of a sidenote here, but are some of those Pics available in higher resolutions ? Still searching for background for my new 24"...

Really pleased by Tim Hermans entry...such unusual views.

Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

Thanks guys. We've got some exciting stuff going on in Guatemala. Needless to say I've been thrilled with finding 5 Nyctanolis on the past two trips! :D

Coolest species on the planet I think...

Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

That’s the lot folks! The competition is now closed. Thanks very much to all who took the time to enter.

Judging will take place over the next week or so and the 13 winners will be announced soon after. Good luck to all.

Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

Dear Joost, is that a Mie Prefecture fire belly?

Yes, you've noticed it right. It's a young adult male C. pyrrhogaster (F1 2009) from the Mie prefecture.

Re: Photo Competition - 2012 Caudata.org Calendar

Hey guys,

how is the voting going? I am starting to fear that my calendar can´t be delivered in time for Christmas (or worse - for January!), since the shipping to Germany always takes sooo long...

Cheers,
Laura

  • Katia Del Rio-Tsonis:
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
