Paramesotriton identification

Since this forum won't let me edit posts that are more than 120 minutes old (?!?!?!) and some of these pics have been inexplicably reduced in size, I have decided to post two larger versions of the two more important ones instead. I hope they're more intelligible than last time:

Does anyone konw what sort of newt this is?

To me it looks like a young P. hongkongensis. To bad your pictures got reduced in size, but maybe someone else will be able to give you a accurate identification

Thank you!

It's interesting that you (Dan) should point out that he looks young, since he is about 6.5 inches in length. I notice his legs are somewhat spindly compared to those of the P.hongkongensis I see in other photographs, so I wonder if he's malnurished. I acquired him Thursday and he's eaten well so far, however, accepting two medium-sized earthworms and even a stick of ReptoMin.

David - To me he looks young because compared to my group of 2 male and 2 females, he doesnt have quite the defined cranial ridges and sharp features that mine do. It could also be thats he's not as well fed as my group!

They are absolute pigs and look more like sausages than newts. My males both have really pronounced ridges along their sides, while the females are more smoothed out. Both the males and females have nice cranial ridges, and real defined facial features that to me, comes with age. Keep up the diet and fatten him up!
