No sand, no bare tank. Any other options?

I want to take out the sand (again) in my tanks but I don't like how a bare tank looks (and sounds when the axies bump their ornaments around). And I feel sorry for them when they're trying to walk and have to move their legs a few seconds before they actually walk forwards.

Is there any other save way? Something that is easy to clean. I don't want slate. But is there some sort of rubber floor, or something else I would call awesome?

I know someone else uses like pretend grass stuff, astroturf?

Hm I don't want to make those permanent changes to the tanks just in case I'm gonna put anything else in there. Sound pretty awesome tho.

Good question. I'll be interested to watch out for any great ideas.

This may sound ridiculous but i'm new to axies however I have leopard geckos and with them any loose substrate is bad so I use Linoleum (non adhesive) or stone tiles I also made grout and polystyrene caves and such ,i've seen people do the grout and polystyrene thing for fish tanks but if you could use lino or tiles for the floor that'd be neat too I just wonder if the lino and tile would be safe lol

the astroturf stuff sounds neat though.

I wanted to try the astroturf. I put some sponge in recently to see how it went but Wooper didn't like it. He just avoided the spongy part of the tank the whole time it was in. He's used to bare bottom so maybe other axies would enjoy it.

I've bought an aquarium background today. Maybe that would work.

I have also seen the plastic grass tank set up here aswell, Looked pretty cool. At my local big als they sell the Grass ground piece in 10 inch squares.

Never mind. It's stupid and a waste of money. Kill me now.

i have artificial grass in my tanks, they look good, and its dead easy to clean, and my axies love it.

Hmm I'll check that out :) since my previous idea failed.

AHA I can explain to you my trick. I wanted slate in the bottom of my 2ft tank, but didn't want to permanently silicone it to the tank. I had a spare lid lying around which fit perfectly in the bottom of my tank. I siliconed the slate to the lid, then put the lid in the bottom of the tank, then added my sand, plants, filter, hide and water :)

I did a mosaic thing with the slate, big chunks siliconed randomly with the gaps filled with black sand. I love the look :D

You could cut a plastic piece to size and coat it with silicone and sand, so that if you ever want to reuse the tank you just have to take out the plastic sheet. You´d just need to make sure the plastic of choice is entirely safe for the intended use.

Thanks for the ideas!

What plastics are entirely aquarium safe?

Could you use suction shower shelves in a tank?

hi i use artificial grass in my tanks, i measured my tank and cut a piece to fit but made sure it was quite snug, (to stop the earthworms escaping under the grass) depending on the grade of the grass it should stay down however i bought some cheaper stuff and it kept riding up the grass in the corners, so i had to rearrange my tank so that the rocks n hides were in the corners.
when it comes to cleaning i just lift it out (as its in one big piece) take it into the bathroom and it shower it down to get rid of any sunken bloodworms/ poop.
ive had it in my tanks for approx 18 months and never had any trouble with it at all, my axies love it as they can grip onto it when walking around.
any other questions you may have just ask and if i can answer i will :)
ill a little pic so u can see what it looks like

Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!
