Newts/salamanders

I couldn't agree more, there is really no reason to argure about calling them by accurate, latin names, even if I mess up sometimes myself. keep in mind I was told my newt was a paddletail for weeks before I was able to access this site!

And please Jenny, don't get upset about things that are purely people trying to help everyone. Im not going to talk about this anymore though however, beacuse I know what absolutly ruins good sites like this, its little battles that stem off from poeple who won't admit they might have possibly been wroung on some de-tail, or not.

Lets not get distracted from our newts!

Jesper,
Alan's point was to keep it more polite to keep it from becoming more like the kingsnake forums not to use common names.
There will always be people who are stubborn about their points of view especially if they are being stubborn out of perversity or ignorance. That just means we need to take the deep breath and continue to correct them.

Ed

Maybe the moderators need to be a little more proactive.
Not kingsnake banning-type proactive, nice caudata.org proactive!

Ed,
Yes I understood that, my point was that I was more afraid of us turning into a kingsnake-type site by bad advice and playground-like reasoning rather than by people being frank with no ill intent. Although I don't think what I said was directly impolite I certainly would have preferred not to say anything.

But yelling at people and bannings will not achieve what you (and I) want to see here Jesper.
Kingsnake = QED

I'm not criticizing Jesper here, or even singling him out, but even if you weren't "directly impolite", it's a question of attitude.
Is it possible to may have backed Jenny into a corner by the tone of your response, and so less rather than more responsive to what you though she should do?

Honestly Alan, have you read Jenny's other posts??

Please tell me how people that repeatedly give bad advice and ignore the fact that's she has been told to stop so many times should be handled.

I may not be the most patient guy around but surely she has crossed the line too many times by now? Please don't tell me you fall for her oh poor little me I am the victim routine?

Jenny has been handled by several different persons in many different ways all giving the same result - more bad advice and attitude.

Exactly what incorrect information have i been giving out (not saying i havent but i would like to know) and why, as a modorator, arent you informing me of all this incorrect information i am giving out rather than allowing me to potentially harm other peopls animals?

Jesper:
Yes, I have read her posts for the last few months. My point is that if you've politely pointed out the error of her ways, then IMO you should involve the moderators rather than get into an online dogfight in the public forum.

i've noticed that when ever Jenny does something wrong or gives wrong information around here that everyone jumps on her and starts tearing her apart, i'm not saying that i think that Jenny is doing any good by going round telling people information that she may not know 100%. but don't you think it's a little unfair by *shouting* at her for not using scientific names. i found that when i came into the hobby that i was surrounded by scientific names from the start so it was easier to learn them, however when i started my fascination with birds then i was brought up to learn their english names and i find it quite hard to learn their scientific names. so maybe next time someone who is not used to give the scientific name as second nature then you should ask them to use them in the future not shout them through the floor.

by the way i can understand if people like Jesper who don't have English as their first language to be a little less patient with the whole names thing, but still...
