New Newts :)

I just got my fire-bellied newts this week. One is very healthy and feeding readily in the 25 gallon tank. The other one is very sick and I'm keeping it in a separate 4.5 gallon quarantine tank for now.

Anyway here are some pictures of the healthy newt:

Currently he's not eating and has a couple of wounds (one on the mouth and a missing toe). I'm treating the wound on his mouth with regular polysporin. It is difficult to get him to hold still. I'm leaving him alone as much as I can. Even if it is too late for him, I want him to be as comfortable as possible.

Looks like your tank building payed off! Looks great! Is there a filter in the tank (not the quarintine one)? What kind?

Currently there's no filter in the tank. There's just an airstone to oxygenate the water and live plants to keep it fresh. I do partial changes (25%) once or twice a week.

Great pics man! The newt looks awesome in the tank. The sick one looks good too, he should heal up with good care.

Thanks! I wish the sick newt could have made it, but it passed away earlier this week. Coincidentally my healthy newt Ladybird was clawing at the front of the tank while I carried the deceased newt away.

The picture doesn't really show how bad the wound was under his mouth. Half of the skin there was ripped right off. They were housed with African Dwarf frogs at the fish store, so that might explain it. I didn't really wanna buy from there but my mom drove me a long way to get there and would've been mad if I came out empty handed.

Damn, guess I was wrong. But if the wound was that bad the pic defenatey didnt catch it. Did you keep the receipt? Exchange it for another I say.

On a side note I finished my tank on friday. Its been cycling and Im getting plants for it. I'll be putting my pics up soon

Wow, your healthy newt looks pretty fat. I wish mine would fatten up, he's too thin right now.
