All is good. The lid is a sliding type, yes. And I tape the gaps closed with electrical tape. When I am home and at the computer (where I work from, and where the tank is) I take the lid off, so I can easier see him and to allow better ventilation.

Whenever I am away (even for 5 min) I put the lid back on. No escapees!
