New Axolotl owner ( need advice)

I know someone mentioned this above, but to reiterate: mealworms have an exoskeleton of chitin, which axolotls can't digest and if they're fed too many they can get blockage. Plus the thing with having to remove the worms' jaws. Bloodworms or pellets are a good staple food, with mealworms as a very rare treat. Hopefully your adorable little axie is feeling better! :wacko:

Thanks, yea few days after i got bubbles i ended up throwing the mealworms into the garden , and now im feeding him just frozen beef heart till i run out then going to start off with worms as the main thing and the pellets, i find feeding the pellets to be really hard to do tho. Also, bubbles is a pig he eats 2 strips of beef heart a night, and always wants more. the other night he barley ate so last night i fed him a lil xtra casue he wantd it, i ended up feeding him 3 beef heart strips and 4 pellets :) and he stil wanted more, i hope this is a good sign.
I tested my water and its at the peak of its cycle, ammonia is at 1.0 and nitrite is at 5.0 >.< he seems fine and isnt showing signs of stress, i do my dailey water changes so hopfully soon he can live confortably. Took all the stones off the bottom so now its bear bottom which makes cleaning up soo easy specially with the cycling going on, going to get sand soon as its done cycling. sorry for the rant
 
beefheart is also not a good staple for axolotls. way too much fat for them. I'd start feeding worms/pellets as a staple.
 
What are the problems you're encountering with pellets? Soft, sinking ones are ideal, cuz a lot of axies don't go after the floating kind.
 
By the way, it was wicked late last night when I posted that last response, and I forgot to mention that I'm glad your axie is eating at least! That's awesome! Probably the first step in getting him to feel better. :) Awesome!
