i recently rescued a small salamnder that my aunt by mistake hurt trying to catch with a cup i didn't think that it would live but it has and i got it a teereruim to live in but it wont eat anything i give it i've tried chopping up worms but it's too scared of me to eat

If you can't get him to eat in a week or so I would encourage to try and put him back where you found it. I also raised 2 northern two lined salamanders from their larval stage but I think since I found them in the water with their gills still in their aquatic stage I was able to plump them up and transition them to their terrestrial stage. They are now almost 2 or 3 years old but they hide a lot and very skittish. I had great luck with blackworms that I got from my local fish store. I don't know if they would like those but I did have success. Do you know the age or length of the salamander and pictures of their setup? I have had mine in a angled slope mostly moss terrarium. The reason you put a angle is so they have many options to find more or less humid with lot's of rocks and hide areas depending if they want to dry off or like my chonky 2 line has been in the bottom of his small water dish. I recently made a waterfall setup for them it's more like a drip wall but hopefully the tank will be fully cycled by this weekend and they like it and hopefully I have the flow strong enough to get them to reproduce one day soon but if your sal hasn't eaten in a week or two then unfortunately they probably won't. It can sometimes be difficult to transition a wild amphibian to captivity but if you are absolutely positive that you can aquire all the knowledge and info and be able to provide them with the proper setup and all of what they need.

No worries about the spelling. I'm more concerned for the correct identification on this salamander so it has a proper setup and you can hopefully rehab back to full health. I'm no expert but this looks like a rough skinned newt from the blurry picture. Does it have any distinct yellow or gold lines? Maybe you could use someone else's phone and send the pics to yourself and upload a photo that shows a little more clear patterns on its back. Mine are 2-3 years old and are 3 and 1/2 to 4 inches long they also have a modeling of black dots between the lines. Is yours around the same length? Always make sure to wash your hands before and after handling sals too 🙏

Oh good I got scared at first I thought you might have a fully aquatic newt in a fully terrestrial tank but I think the rough skinned are west of us. ..I hope you can get the lil guy to eat soon. Do you know the temp or humidity in his tank? You're going to need a lid eventually once his leg is healed. Two lines are super good climbers and I wouldn't be surprised if he escaped even with 1 or 2 broken legs

he seems to have a hard time flipping himself over when he gets on his back do you have any tips to try and get it to eat? i'm about to try and find another tiny worm to cut up for him

Yeah I'm sure it's difficult to flip with messed up legs I know I be floppin like a fish lol. Unfortunately I have no special secrets besides live blackworms. Idk if you can find any near you but I would suggest that maybe grindle or white worms but he most likely will only respond to live food. Just a heads up the chances of him surviving are now getting low if he still hasn't eaten yet. I hope you aren't too attached and understand if he doesn't make it. I would just try and see if you can get different foods he interacts with keep him in a garage or basement. The cooler the temps the better for them in summer if you can try for 60_65 degrees

Hey don't be so hard on yourself you're not an idiot. Sometimes our mistakes become some of our biggest teachable moments. I had 3 rib newts and I stacked 2 dragon stones up against the bubbler. I wish it didn't happen and never would have guessed one would knock it over and get smashed and pinned by it but it definitely happened and now every setup I make is siliconed and rocks are not budging but it does happen to the best of us. At least you learned a lot about salamanders and maybe eventually you can home a captive bred newt or sal in the future
