My Taricha's

Hmm... I think that this is a dumb question but I'll ask it any ways do you think that danios would do fine with a dwarf frog. I want to rescue the ones that they are selling at a craft store on a betta pellet diet.

Tyler and Ali,

I had a Ghost Shrimp in with my Tarichas a few years ago. It lasted about a year and a half before it was eaten.

Around the same time, I had two blue longfin Danios in the tank: one of my Tarichas HID from them constantly, lost a bunch of weight and I had to separate him to get him to eat. My other Taricha ended up eating both of the fish - but not before she took a HUGE chunk out of one of them and it swam around for half a day all torn open before Lita caught up with it to finish it off.

Not a good idea, IMO, for the newts or the fish.

I don't know a whole lot about Dwarf Frogs, but I'd imagine not - from what I've seen there fairly inactive little guys, and might be stressed by how zippy and fast the Danios are like my male Taricha was.

Hi S1ren, yeah I agree with the fish thing. You know how people are always asking about keeping fish with their newts? And there's always talk of the White Cloud Minnow. Well, I was curious and eventually bought a few white clouds to live with my two T. grans. ...I wish I hadn't. Nothing has happened yet, and it's been a few months. But I just don't like the minnows!
They're a pain!

They're just something else to feed. And they don't seem to pick on the newts, but they pick on each other. I added more plants so now they all kind of have their own territory.

The newts are still eating very well though. I'd like to get more ghost shrimp to help clean up in my C.O tank. I had one minnow in there, but I put it back in the taricha tank because I think it stressed out the C.O. The tarichas just swim right through the fish if they don't get out of the way though, hehe.

Anyway, last time I had ghost shrimp they only lasted a few months in my taricha tank, but my c.o. never caught them.

Yeah I'm finding out that fish suck. My ammonia level isn't dropping because they're messy and picky eaters. It would be so much easier to suck out half a worm with a turkey baster than all the flakes they leave. I am trying to limit them to one very small pinch a day.

I have white clouds in with my three Torosas. I put them in there close to five years ago as food before I knew better and they just survived. The newts seem unphased by them and the fish are oblivious to anything not shaped like a flake. The fish have fry every for or five months and then the newts show their true predatory skill but after the feast it is back to normal life. I keep thinking I should remove the minnows but it has been such a happy tank for five years (the newts are actually turning 10 in January) that I can't see the point.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
