Just because I think they are great!

They are about 8 months old and are growing like weeds. I've noticed their tails are flattening very slightly and they have been in and out of the water dish a few times. They eat like pigs! Blood worms, fruit flies, tiny brown crickets, you name it, they wolf it down. They stay either a beigey or a browny colour no matter what they eat though.

They have also learnt to beg very quickly! When I open the viv to mist them, they all appear and give me puppy dog eyes :lol:

How are yours getting on? Mine eat and eat and eat! They are growing pretty quick as well

They look really, really good!

I think as long as they are eating well for you, this species is actually pretty easy to look after. If they don't mind going in the water, I'd set up a larger water area to 'tempt' them in. Keep it stocked with aquatic foods: blackworms, small snails (these guys are voracious snail predators), and small earthworms will survive in cooler water for a week or more. The males will enter the water much more easily than females, in my experience, as soon as there is a slight drop in temps.

Its suddenly dropped to single figure temperatures here, and a couple of nights have been below freezing. Thats obviously outside, but its not much warmer inside :rofl: I wonder if that explains the sudden interest in water.

What sort of snails? And are they definitely safe for them to eat?

I think what I have are ramhorn snails (I'm not an expert). The newts will eat the smaller snails and leave large ones alone.

I believe they eat a huge quantity of these because I never have snail issues in my tanks when the newts are present. As soon as I remove the newts, the snails get out of hand and I have to go on a squishing rampage.

great pics, and its good to see the little ones doing so well
my adults are in amplexis again now, and the female looks full of eggs, so maybe I will have more eggs here soon
