The sphagnum moss you have can be quite acidic, causing ion loss. The water part isn't very deep, and doesn't provide any aquatic hides. It also will get dirty very quickly, and you'll need to do near-daily water changes.

If I were you, I'd build some sort of island (I've used legos on stilts successfully), which will allow you to have deeper water and maximize the volume of the tank. I'd get aquatic plants (Java moss is a great one) and maybe a small bubble filter.
 
Nice looking newt you have there. How many gallons is the tank? Overall the set-up looks good, but it would do better without the spagnum moss and with a higher water level. The cave you have in there would serve as a nice haulout area with the water level 2/3rds of the way up. I definitely second the recommendation of java moss in there.

Also, is the cover secure? Newts can be escape artists, so make sure there aren't any gaps!

Why dose it get very dirty very quickly and thanks i will try n get hold of java moss!
 
Shallow water will have a tendency to build up harmful chemicals like ammonia mroe quickly, kind of the same with excess food particles and such.

Think of it like this.

Put a couple of drops of food coloring into a small glass with water. You can see the food color pretty well. Now put the same amount of food coloring into a big jug filled with water. It changes to color of the water, but not nearly as much as it did in the glass. (Better yet, try the experiment with milk and instant chocolate milk mix instead of the water and food coloring.... Hmmmmm Cho-col-ate!!!!)

So the smaller the amount of waterfor your newts, the more water changes you will NEED to do.
 
Ah i got ya mate cheers for the advis iv orderd some Java Moss of ebay and ill see what i can do guys ill have new pics up soon!
