Photo: My babies!!!

Congratulations, they're adorable :) Water changes only really need to be done when you start feeding them the BBS. With mine I water change daily before feeding then do spot cleans wherever possible. Keep the BBS eggs in the fridge in an airtight container, it might be a good idea to keep the hatched BBS in the fridge too as they don't live for long. If you can find tiny newly hatched daphnia these are a good alternative to BBS. Keep posting pics!
You water change BEFORE feeding?? I water change a few hours after because I'm worried about leaving the BBS in the tubs for too long because they may foul the water..

Could you give me directions/tips on how to store the hatched BBS? For example if they need food, if they should be in an airtight tub or just a lidless? If they need aeration once hatched etc.. That would be great!

THANKS

CUTE! you will find hey go through growth spurts... for a week they grow slowly and steadily, and then they grow HUGE over night all of a sudden! also the ones i thought were leucistics are turning more coppery in colour, i'm not sure there will be any leucistics at all :D

I have two that look VERY leucistic.. I hope they are copper too! :) How are your first lot turning out? Any melanoids? My housemate is really hoping for one out of mine to be black. :)

i cant really tell, the wild types all look very dark so maybe they all will be

So it sounds as though I will have to euthanize my injured baby.. 'Mark' says he may have lost some digestive organs.. :'( I've gotten so attached to the little guy! It's not fair.. It's all my fault that he got injured, now because of me, he has to die. Life sucks.

UPDATE: I still have 21 babies for now. Colours look like 7 albinos (mostly white but its too early to be sure), 8 leucistic/ copper (from the parents last batch the leucistics turned out copper eventually so it's hard to tell) and 6 wild types including little Fighter.

FYI This morning Fighter looks like he may have some regrowth! I'm not getting too excited in case it's not, but there's definitely something different in the area.. OH OH OH>>> I SWEAR I saw him jump at a BBS.. whether or not he can digest it is another question.. but as long as he still fights, he has a chance!

HE CHOMPED ONE!!! It swam right in front of his face and he nummed it! Oh I realllyyyy hope he can digest!

excelent! :D i accideltly cut off one of my little ones tails with the turkey baster quite high up and i felt terrible... he couldn't swim! he ate for a while, then never grew and died eventually :( I hope yours lives. Have you given them all names yet?

It happened 3 days ago and he's still alive.. How long did yours last before it died?

I haven't named them all yet because I don't want to get too atached. 2 have names so far Earl(ette) and Fighter.. There is a REALLY cute white leucistic (ghost white with black eyes) that I'm tempted to keep so I'll probably name that one too, but I think I'll wait till it's a bit bigger and I can see what it does/ looks like.

:)

mine lasted about 2 weeks. I still feel relly bad about it :(

So I'm fairly sure Fighter pooped! There's a little trail of orange, white and black behind him (which is currently stuck to him) and it looks a lot like fish poop. It appears to have 2 BBS eggs in it which I'm glad he passed, and some BBS residue which hopefully he got the nutrients out of!

Do you think I should gently pry it off or leave it there? I don't want to risk hurting him but I also don't want the poop to foul the water.. I think it may be stuck because he's damaged down there, but I'm just glad he can poop at all. Assuming it is in fact poop..

Oh and it looks more orange in his tummy today.. yay!

It came off by itself during the water change..

So you all know how I used to have not enough BBS? Well.. now I have too much. I started a new hatchery a few days ago because I heard the first lot would die soon.. but they're still alive! Now I have 2 coke bottles full of shrimpies lol!

1. My favorite (and lightest) leucistic baby!

2. Little Leu next to Earl(ette).

3. Fighter with his poop.. So proud!

So... strangely, some of my younger axies are growing faster than my older axies.. The ones born on the 23rd are the biggest, 24th second biggest, and 22nd are the smallest.. Wierd huh? All the axies are relatively the same size as the others in their birthday tubs though.. Weird...

They range from size about 1.4cm to 2cm!

Oh and even weirder... The ones born on the 23rd are WAY more zoomy at meal time too.. I wonder why they are so much more advanced and active than their older and younger siblings..??

I'm sorry to report, I think little Fighter died last night. I went to feed him this morning and when I poked him, he didn't wiggle.. :'( Thanks for all your help everyone, at least he's at peace now.

I fed mine baby daphnia after the second week, so water changes before feeding seem to be working better at the moment. I wouldn't be too paranoid about the BBS fouling the water, just wash them well before feeding them to the babies and remove any uneaten ones after 10 mins. I had a couple of slow eaters, so would feed them smaller portions and more often to keep the water quality decent. Also scooping the poop out whenever you notice it keeps things fresh for them.

BBS shouldn't need aeration once hatched, just store in a cool place, although it sounds like you have more than enough BBS at the moment!

Yeah I'm almost drowning in BBS lol!

OH AND I GOT MY FIRST LEG STUMPS!!!!!! I saw them on 2 axie babies!
