My Axoltol laid eggs!

I like Otterwoman, a respectable and lenient moderator who can see the difference between a simple debate and hate speech. I received an infraction for simply calling someone "rude" once, so I really do appreciate that otterwoman has given people the floor to defend themselves and their opinions without being labeled as disrespectful.

Overall, my opinion is that if you are able to give an axolotl to someone you know in real life, then you are more than able to explain to them the proper living conditions as well as necessary equipment and requirements for an axolotl tank to thrive. If you have given them all of the information that you have, then as long as they're a respectable person (why would you have friends that aren't?) they will be able to provide that care for an axolotl. An axolotl tank is not hard to keep up with, in fact it's easier than most. Cold? Check. Caves? Check. Axolotls? Check. Just tell them the necessary information and there is no reason why they won't be good owners for an axolotl. And to say that you feel weird giving them away but yet you sell them to people you've never met before... I just don't understand that. It certainly did seem like it was set up to boast on her own abilities and belittle people she felt would be irresponsible axolotl owners.
I do however feel bad that this person's thread got hijacked by all of this lol.

I honestly did not sense any boasting on Auntiejude's part. And selling to people on this forum, you (or I would, anyway) assume that the buyers are well educated on their care. I would sell a newt to someone on this forum before I would give one to anyone in my family, unless I was sure they had the education they needed. In fact, I might even make joining this forum a prerequisite!

I always highly recommend this forum to potential buyers but i dont know how many register. i dont know what I would do without this forum and all the knowledgable people on it. I had 0 experience with aquatics let alone axolotls but when I got my mind set I had to learn everything I could, and over a year later I am still learning and still asking questions because I want to know everything possible for these guys. Great people, I really love the forums, and I dont think auntiejude was trying to be rude, maybe got a little defensive when she was being told she was being rude, her main point was really to treat your friends how you would treat anyone else getting an axolotl from you. Be cautious because it is heartbreaking when you find out somebody was neglecting their needs and the axie died very quick, so to just make sure they are up to the responsibility and know the proper information, at least that is what I gotfrom her first post. Just be careful, expecially when giving them away as some people(and i emphasize some) would assume its no loss if it dies as it was free.

Like I had people go "why would you spend 300$ on vet bills for a 10$ rat that you could get another one for 10$) and its like because this is MY rat and he is sick and I cant just let him die! But some people do think this way.. Its sad.

$10? I have some in my shed you can have one of those!
Just kidding, I don't have a shed, or rats because I have a Rat Terrier who would destroy any wild vermin that crossed his path...

Lol i dont know why i got so attached to my rats, but I did. Same with my lotls, i treat them better then myself I think >.<

But people think I am crazy when I bring a pet to a vet, its like because it isnt a dog or a cat it doesnt deserve to be healthy and happy and live as long as it can live? Or when I freak over something small.

Maybe i am a little crazy but thats irrelevant lol!

I wouldn't spend more than the pet is worth... to me.
Meaning if I love that rat like I love... Something that I love a lot.
Like okay I really love my axolotls they're amazing, if one got sick I'd do everything in -my- power to get it better and I'd do everything I possibly could to make sure he got better, but I couldn't spend hundreds of dollars bringing him to a vet, I don't even bring myself to the doctor because it's so expensive.

I understand very much so, but at the time we had the money and we knew he would die(deep puncture wound with necrosis and a really bad infection) we tried to help it ourselves but it got really bad so we made a choice, crunched some numbers and what not. If it happened again I probably would bring him in right away---cheaper, well actually our vet gave us like a extra month worth of antibiotics for free so thats wonderful. But I dont have the money anymore to spend hundreds of dollars. But I would definately do everything in my power.

Woah didn't mean for this to turn into a whole argument! If it makes you guys feel better I would only be giving away the axies once they were of correct age (which is why I asked) and to people whom I trust. I'll also be helping them set up along the way and they can call me whenever they have a question. I can assure that any-one that I give away will be going to a home that It trust and if something were to happen I would not take it personal with the owner.

Well, I think YOU started with the deliberate misinterpretation when you likened her scenario of a friend accidentally killing a baby axie to losing a pet after a presumably normal and healthy lifespan of good care, or comparing the gift of a life with a trinket that might be misplaced. When you choose this interpretation of her words, it is an obvious response on her part to reply that she might care more than others, who would think your way, and that to her placing an animal in a home is a different action than giving a trinket or not investigating that the home her animals are being placed in is a better home than you might give a knick-knack.
Furthermore, all Auntijude did was suggest a possible outcome to ponder, and not advise her whether or not to give them. She made a good point that did not deserve the beginnings of a reductio ad absurdum.
This topic can be discussed without assuming the other party is insulting you, or insulting them, but that does not appear to be your method of choice.

I really wish there was a "like" button and a "love" button, cause I would press it for that post! Exactly what I couldn't put into words.
