Hello all!

I was wondering what would be the best way to move my axolotl tank to my new house. I figured I would need to put Chester and Steve in a bucket or something, drain the tank, take everything out and transport the tank empty. I will need to fill it when I get it into position at the house but that worries me because the water will be completely new water except for what the bucket holds. What is the best way to do this?

Hello,
You'd better use one or two cans rather than a bucket because the water will move a lot during transport.
Once in the new house, you could refill the tank with the old water and, each day, add a few liters of the new water until the tank is full again.

That's a great solution! Thank you!

The bacteria also lives on everything in the tank, so I would keep all the décor and the filter wet in the old water during transport so that the bacteria do not die and the cycle is hopefully maintained.

Draining the tank, taking everything out, and transporting it empty seems like a solid plan. As for the water change, maybe consider bringing some of the old tank water with you in sealed containers to help with the transition. It might ease the change for Chester and Steve. By the way, if you're looking for tips on the overall move, threemovers.com might have some helpful insights. Best of luck with the move and settling into your new home with the axolotl crew!
