Is that animal gravid or are they supposed to be that huge?
Chris

It's gravid. I've posted a pic of their tank before somewhere on the forums. Try a search ;).

Now I've read the whole thread, but I just wish I could digest all that valuable information! "JPEG compression ratios" and all that other stuff really throw me. It's a shame that after two or so years of taking caudate photos, I remain "photo illiterate"

I simply insist on you giving me a private lesson in Ireland someday -- or better yet, have you over to Japan to exchange photography lessons for a grand tour of Cynops habitats

Sadly, I seem to be having some problems with my Canon Rebel these days -- not getting the same quality photos I did before, slower focusing compared with one I saw in a shop the other day (though it had a different lens). I think the camera is need of a professional checkup. It's not at all surprising considering the punishment I've put it through -- dropping it several times and exposing it to some pretty rough environments.

For now, I think I'll try taking photos in RAW format, if my camera allows it, and converting them to JPEG photos using my ACDSee software, if that can be done.

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to seeing those ensicauda pics!

Hi Tim,

Send it in for a service right now ;). It does RAW, though it's Canon's own RAW format (all the manufacturers have their own RAW format).

Any questions you have about photography, please do ask - I like to talk about two things really: newts and photography!

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
