Hello,
My name is Emma! I will make an introduction post as soon as I get home, but given my current circumstances I wanted to put some feelers out to the community.
I have about 2 dozen happy, healthy and growing babies on my hands from an accidental clutch a few weeks back. They are about 3-5 inches all together, with fluffy gills and healthy appetites (plus some), along with very interactive personalities (aka once they spot you, they will gaze at you longingly and dance for food lol). I will post pictures once I am home as well! I'm at work currently, but I'm hoping to start getting any feedback as to where I might be able to take them to find them good homes. I'd be willing to talk individual sales or even a good wholesale pet store. I am located in South Dakota, and would be willing to travel with them. I have never shipped any before, that just makes me nervous, but I am running out of room for my growing babies and still have three adults already.
The clutch happened very unexpectedly and I couldn't bring myself to cull them all before I realized that I don't know the lineage of the parents. I didn't realize how important that was when I decided to keep them. I feel so bad about this, and don't want to contribute to inbreeding but couldn't cull them after I found out. I have tried to find out but the pet store I got parents from did not know lineage either. Mom and dad are now living in separate tanks and I never plan to breed them. I wouldn't want to sell the babies to anyone wanting to breed axolotls, as my babies would strictly be pets. I also am perfectly happy with selling at a cheaper price, just as long as I can ensure it is a great home for each of them. I cannot sex them yet, and they all live separately in their own tubs.
The store I received my axolotls from is the only one in our area that sells them, and their stock of axolotls is... not as healthy as it used to be, and I wouldn't trust them with my babies care. Mama axolotl is a dirty leucy with blue gills and papa is golden, both about 2 years old - I will include their pictures with my intro post! All babies appear to be dirty leucy. My other adult is a recent rescue, also a golden male who will live with the other male when he is big and strong enough. I rescued him from my local pet store at a discounted price, as I brought up his condition with the owner and he agreed he is aware that their store cannot keep axolotls at the right temperature or provide constant care. They also had a couple babies, and they looked very sickly. I'd like to go back and rescue them as well, but I don't have the money or space currently.
I've never made a post like this, so I'm sorry for so much information. Or, please let me know if I left anything out! My only goal is to get the babies to good homes. Thank you for taking the time to read my plight, lol.
