live blood worm for larvae?

Disaster!
Down to 14 now, All tubs scrubed, separated into 3 batches by size, 100% water change and back on fresh daphnia.

One thing to note is that even though i stopped feeding the worm over 2 days ago their stomachs are still full and bright red. They did eat quite a lot of brine shrimp yesterday but they are still carrying the worm. this makes me believe that it is a case of a blockage. Also the bodies of some of the dead ones are in perfect condition, requiring a nudge with the turkey baster to confirm their death. So i dont think its bacterial.

Fingers Crossed:sad::sad: I am such a muppet for changing a food scource that they were doing so well on:mad:

This is what I find...

If no one believes it I'll personally ship a single specimen to everyone to prove it. I may be crazy, but I know what I'm seeing here. When the larvae are about to become flies the first half of their body gets thicker, and develops ugly looking grey hairs.

I also randomly find these, which I was under the impression are called "ghost midge larvae".

Have a great day.

Yup those are the ones. Larvae killers! i also wood apreciate you not sending me any:eek: i think the other things are sold here as glass worm, Think my discus like them.

That's strange that the midge larvae 'killed' all of your larval axolotls. Are you sure there isn't another unforseen problem here? They've never killed any of mine, in fact, they've only seemed to make them healthier. Could you post pictures of these larvae that burst from the worms?

Sorry but i dont have any pics i just threw out the bodies. they were all perfect other than the split bellies on some, (maybe 2 or 3) they didn't all die, just over half, and the ones i have left still have red stomachs after 3-4 days off the worm. the bodies had a very close inspection and some of them looked like they were pretending to be dead but unfortunatly this was not the case. every detal of them was still intact and perfect, and the only thing that changed was the food. It seems that they have mouths that are bigger than their *****:(. Hope the next update will be more positive.

...what size are your Axolotls mate? ...as Jake said, don't think the bloodworm have "killed" your Axolotls. Maybe a bacterial infection and the undigested bloomworm are just breaking free.

Don't beat yourself up over it mate, we've all lost hatchlings :) ...I let one of my first batches over heat - left me with only one to rear.

Their about an 25mm at biggest (got 6 that size) and the smallest is about 15mm. Dont know about the bacterial infection thing, i'm quite experienced with fish (although very inexperienced with axolotls) and there seems to be no outward signs of anything going on. Their still carrying a belly full of worms after about 4-5 days now. weird.
