Question: Leaf Litter

Axolotls don't like acidic water and newt larvae generally don't have fungal problems.

I used almond leaves to treat what appeared to be a fungal infection on my axolotl's tail ( caused by a bite). This seemed to work for me much better than salt baths. A number of members on the forum use these.

Not only for fungal problems, It can be to condition water for larvae, infusoria, prevent bacterial infections (there is an article about this and larvae in CC), to lower stress after shipping, etc

Bellabello, nice to read that. I haven't checked if it works yet, but I'll collect some leaves to test.

Regards

One quick additional note; DO NOT use leaves, wood, or bark from the tree commonly called Live Oak from the west coast of the USA.

I'm just curious why you single out the CA live oak. I've used it in aquariums and terrestrial setups both with no adverse effects. However, this was only for CA species that exist in CA live oak forests and only included well-weathered and leeched pieces. I'm aware the acorns have high tannin content and it's a pain to remove when you're trying to make them edible, so I'm cautious with CA live oak stuff in aquariums. I'm just curious why you single it out over other oaks.
