Is this tank OK for one Axolotl

Hi JATM,

I think the snails you might be seeing are on the background picture I use on the outside of the tank. As far as I know there are no snails in there, unless their hiding where I can't see them lol. I like them to, I had them in the goldfish tank and they looked great and did a wonderful job until they started to breed out of control lol.

I think this is a very important post, and it doesnt really have to be about this specific case but more in a general sense, regarding ALL members here on our forums. A few times too often i find that the tone is way too harsh on these boards , even when meaning well. We need to be supportive towards our newer members, rather than driving them off. :)

Just to clarify, I have found every reply to my question helpful and supportive and have in noway taken offense to anything that has been written. Once again thank you each and every one for your help. As a new axolotl owner I am going to be asking lots of tedious and probably pointless questions, so as far as I can gather anyone who takes the time to reply :talker: - is going to be a bonus in my books lol.

I was in no sense refferring to this thread, I just think we all are a little quick to jump on people regarding mainly the horrible and unforgivable gravel, and then tank size. Explaining in a nice way will help our new members and help our forum keeping a nice growth :)

Carson I wasnt trying to tell you that you were to harsh, my appologies is you took it so.

And as for not being able to convey tone in text, that is completely wrong (whats the tone here :))? You can write with a colloquial tone, a formal tone, an angry tone or even with a nice tone! There would be no litterature or poems if we couldnt convey feelings, tones and meaning with text.
What CAN go wrong is the communication with text. Sender - Text - Reciever, but now im side trailing...;)

Agreed !!

true, but we're not talking about someone keeping axolotls for scientific study. We're talking about hobbyist's for whom it would be impractical, or just plain annoying to do daily waterchanges on a tank. So while I never said it wasn't possible to keep axolotls in less than 5 gallons, I don't advise it for hobbyists.

I am a hobbyist and do regular water changes on all of my axolotl tanks. Daily changes are not necessary unless they are being fed something like brineshrimp which die and foul the water quckly. It takes 5 minutes to do a 50% water change on a 10 gallon tank, if that is too much time for someone to spend on their pet's well being every few days or a week, then maybe they should get a pet rock...

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
