IS this OK

but wouldn't male male axolotls fight a bite of limbs gills and ijure the other ????
Also you said a 3ft tank is fine for 2 axies but you didn't answer my Q about the 2ft would it be able to harbour 2 axies ???
Thank you

Is Anil a cool name for an Axie

2ft tank in my opinion is not enough room for 2 axies. male axolotls arnt anymore agressive than females. they dont fight, they just try eat eachother during feeding time because they accidentally mistake each other for food. if you get them from the same pet store and they're in the same tank they would of most likely grown up together. is anil pronounced the same as anul?.

ok but thats in your opinion right ???
Anil is pronounced ( A-nil ) and i will name the other Niale ( Knee-al-eh )
thankyou for your opinion i will probably onlny get 2

Thats funny how they try 2 eat eachother hey...

Umm when i get the 2footer would i be able to use the tank cleaner ( mouth operated sucky thing) to put the water from my established tank into the new one to skip the cycling or would i be better off going through cycling ???

yes, but only if your estabilished tank is above the new tank. the siphon is operated with gravity. you could just use a bucket. its better to use the stuff from the established tank. like the substrate and filter and stuff, because that'll hold the bacteria necesary to cycle the tank. that way you probably wont need to cycle the new tank.

Ok but our siphon doesn't use gravity as long as it's been started i could move it up and the siphon would suck it up i think i will because it will cut the time of cycling and then i can focus on caring for the Axolotls i love those little guys.

dont forget to add on the other stuff like filter and thermostat, thats at least another 10-15 dollers.

people where I live, do not expect to pay very much for a tank at a garage sale, or anything else for that matter.! hehe
hey jeff... Where did you get the ten gallon for 9.99 ?

yer so that adds up 2 about 50 i'll aim at around 60-70 so if they haggle down i'll still get a good price fo the tank also should i buy real plants or just get some plastic fake plants.
I know real plants would be better but i would like to keep the fake ones.
Peace Out

I can purchase 20longs (36x12x12inches or ~78 liters 90x30x30 cm ) new for $25 at Meijer, a midwest chain store, you guys wouldn't have it out there. Their 10 gallon (18x12x12 inches or ~38 liters 45x30x30cm) run about $15. I bought a 40long (48x12x12 or ~150 liters 120x30x30 cm) new for $80 (from LFS), then I bought a 55gal (48x12x18 or ~208 liters 120x30x45cm) used with stand, screen top, and lights for $100, then I bought a 90 gal used (48x18x24 inches or ~340 liters 120x45x60 cm), for $10. Garage sales are great places to look for tanks. In my opinion, a 12x12x12 tank even with filters and a bunch of other junk isn't going to sell for much over $20.

Real plants are fine, if you've got enough light to keep them alive. I use both silk and real in my tanks. Silk is better than plastic, as it's more natural-looking and easier on axolotl skin.

I love garage sales but I never get there early enough

If you use sand and put live plants in it they get rooted in don't they? or is there more to it?

Blimmen heck Joan you seem to have alot of luck finding good cheap (or perhaps rightly priced) things! $10 bucks for a 340 litre tank.....I want..

I'm getting one for *cheap* over here for 160...

Some live plants will root. With axolotls, it's probably easier to use plants that don't necessarily need rooting, as axolotls are notorious for pulling them out. I put large rocks over the roots of my plants to keep them down.

The 340liter doesn't have anything in it right now. I don't have a stand big enough for it, and it's so deep that I probably won't put the axolotls in it (inability of mine to reach the bottom!). I'll probably put my snake in it. (who's in a 30 long). Is anyone else addicted to collecting tanks? lol.

i am absolutely addicted well i imagine i would be if i had one. i've been looking at sites thinking "i'll get that one day"

that's so awesome, you have a pet snake? i'd love a snake but you have to have a licence here. snakes don't naturally occur here and if they did then bye bye birdies closest thing we have are eels which i'd love. i want a tarantula as well. again licence..and native birds....licence, *sigh* one day.

closest thing i do to get near them is working at the native wildlife sanctuary it rocks.

ok i'm off topic now. axolotls pull the plants out haha. you can buy plants with weights on them can't you? do they eat the plants at all?

Soo rocks on the bottom of all plants so Axies can't pull them up yes or no
i'm going to get some big packs of ebay made of silk and lace

joan said she has plants that root into the sand (?) and puts a few rock on the roots to stop them from pulling them out.

live plants are primarily to add oxygen to the water aren't they? they look nice too..

yes live plants are used to add oxygen and yes they look nice.... but i think i will get fake silk plants.
I'm getting the new tank soon woohooo go pocket moneyz !!!!!!!

I use some plants that have roots (Pothos, mainly) but don't NEED to root in the tank. I put large rocks, about fist-size, on top of them to keep the axolotls from pulling them up. In addition to pothos, I use java moss in all my tanks.

Charlotte, between my boyfriend and I, we have a lot of animals. Former owners of a one-eyed ball python, burmese python, savannah monitor, and green iguana. We currently have 2 tarantulas (rose hair and curly hair), an italian greyhound dog, a rather portly ball python, and about 20 caudates.
