Just a note to let you know that the next International Amphibian Day (Days) will take place in April 2004. If you can be in Maryland USA at that time, be sure to go along. Here's a quote from their site:

"On behalf of the International Amphibian Days committee, we are delighted to announce that our 5th annual event will take place on April 2 - 4, 2004 at the Holiday Inn Select in Timonium, Maryland. We know that many will miss having a show this coming fall, but we thought that a move to the spring would offer many advantages, especially given the difficulty of finding a date on October or November that was both available and not in conflict with other major shows or events. We look forward to an exciting series of events at a beautiful time of year in these parts, when the weather is almost always mild and more conducive to the shipping and transporting of animals than it can be in the late fall.

We appreciate your continued support of IAD and look forward to a very exciting show next spring. As information is available, it will be posted on the web site. For further information email Beth Off or reference the web site."

More information can be found on the Events Page of Caudata.org. If you know of an amphibian-relevant event that you would like displayed on our events page, please contact me.

I'll be there. If it all works out I will be doing a workshop on aquatic amphibian husbandry (of which I will have to at least mention a bunch of salamanders).

Well Ed , maybe we will finally meet and be able to stick faces on names ?? For me there has been an indirect question if I wanted to come over and speak (eg. on Neurergus or caecilians). But haven't heard of them anymore since and currently I have another pc

I'll be their. the fun part is the conference atmosphere of the event. Last time I had a vendors table. I don't know how it happened but I spent almost exactly the same amount of money I brought in.

I saw Beth Off from the IAD committee last week end. I also talked to Ken Kulp from the IAD committee. It looks like their will be at least two speakers on salamanders. The speakers and details are being finalized. Their will be newts and salamanders for sale by at least one vendor and probably several vendors. Details are being finalized.
The conference is very dart frog centered but their is lots of other amphibian stuff.

Thanx, Michael, for readvising us of this event. I have not attended an IAD function previously, but Patti and I are planning to take in the 2004 meeting.
Will probably spend a few days photographing salamanders in Appalachia on the way north. Cheers/rdb

Is there a mailing list one can sign onto that would remind folks like me of this wonderful thing? I'd like to go... but will very likely forget by then.

The web site is www.intlamphibday.org I'm not sure if they have a mailing list. I'll post a reminder closer to the event with more info on tours and speakers.

michael-your email about this-i tried to reply to it but the adress is bad it says?? anyways-i really really want to go but dont know if i can yet-depends on the new spring schedule which isnt printed yet, id prefer to do a table with someone else for a change-so i can feel free to leave and attend lectures, i will have offspring and i may have to fly again-so i might have to send the animals ahead instead of risking airport security/dislike of salamanders in my purse. anyone had trouble at airports with sals/frogs in luggage???

Heck, they let people board airplanes with cats and small dogs, why would they object to newts??? But airport security is so difficult these days, I can image there might be problems. Anybody know?

Paris, I might be interested in sharing a table, although I will probably want to go to the same lectures you do.

Unfortunately, newts are seen in the same category as snakes when it comes to airport security. And this was the case even before it was so difficult.

I might be interested in sharing a table as well (and a hotel room too), but I don't know my schedule for April yet, either. I guess all three of us might be interested in the same lectures. Missing one out of three lectures is not so bad, though...

I'll be there. Prolly won't have a table or a room, but I'll try. Sleep in the car and pay someone to use a shower.

Perhaps, this could be another offshoot of the "Meet and Greet."

See ya then.

Paris,
I think my email is fixed. Jennewt and Swan - The good lectures are when the sales room is closed on Saturday evening. Aaron- you can use our shower. Their are also some cheaper hotels close by. I'm getting two tables so I can spred out. I can share half of one but have told several people that allready.

I think I may be able to make it to this one too. Should be a fun offshoot of the meet and greet!

Now to hammer out the details.

I might even make it. wow.

any chance we could have a "caudata.org" dinner somewhere or something.

Greg

With any luck, i'll be staying with a friend (who i'm sure will volunteer his shower to a bunch of newt-crazed strangers. but if not, its sleepin' in the car for me too!

I think the cheap hotel near by is a red roof in or something like that. The Holiday Inn Select where the event is at is nice and not to expensive. I'll probably be staying their unless I need to commute from home every day. Their might be opportunities for Caudata.org people to talk either in the little talks during the day or the lectures Saturday night. The weekend schedule is pretty busy but their could be some opportunity to get together as a group.

This is killing me!!! I may actually try to show for this. Let's see, I put in for personal time from work,...then tell my kid I'm going to be out of town on his birthday...

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
