International Amphib Day 05

3 to a room worked out very well this year, but of course I got to share it with two awesome people. Ask for extra sheets and blanket in advance, as they ran out last year.

IAD was definitely worthwhile. The talks were very informative and there was a big enough caudate-oriented group to have a good time.

Financial and Time constraints probably rules me out for 2005.

For the MidAtlantic Reptile show we got 5 people in a room (sleeping bags are heavily recommended).

Gosh, I'm incredibly out of the loop--just where and when does this wonderful activity take place?

"Be there or be square"? Um ... Kaysie ... the 80's are over.

say it aint so dot!!!

um im wondering, i heard that after this year the event will go mobile-taking place in different states, anyone else heard that?....if it is 'international' does anyone know if it will move outside the US?

yeah that would be wicked. imagine if something interesting actually could possibly happen in england. the tiny amount of amphibians avaliable is unbelieveable(spelling?) and if you want a particular species thats captive bred you might as well forget about it.
i can get cheap flights to the U.S, but i doubt it would be worth the hassle of bringing anything back. is there a website or anything with speakers and subjects

Since I've never been there before ... exactly how "big" is this event? Is it just confined to the convention hall? I saw that last year there were "field trips" to area attractions (ie: EdK's "hood" - Philly Zoo and an aquarium,) so will there be day trips like that scheduled for this year as well?

Dot,
I went for the first time last year. My schedule did not allow for me to take part in any of the trips however I did take in a few of the lectures - which were very good. The show itself, in my opinion, was disappointing. I believe that someone had commented in another section that it should be called international dart frog days or something like that. There were probably around 20 dealers and 99% of the livestock offered was PDF's. Paris and one other dealer had a few caudate offerings. Now keep in mind that I have often made the trip to Daytona and was having somewhat higher expectations (as far as number of dealers). I still had a good time with the trip overall. I met an old friend for drinks on Saturday night and Sunday my girlfriend and I went down to the inner harbor and the aquarium.

As it stands now, they lost money on the field trips for the last several years. There were something like 5 people for the PhillyZoo trip and they had to rent an entire bus for it.

As for the dealers, all I can say is that they will only allow cb animals. That really does limit the number of dealers that can sell caudates.

For the last 2 times their were probably about a half dozen types of caudates offered. Some were sold very fast. Their simply aren't that many c.b. caudates offered for sale in the U.S. This year has potential for more stuff but one never knows. It's definately a "dart frog" show. The best parts of the weekend are the lectures and talks.

The IAD vendor packets are out. If you are interested in getting a table at IAD you should check the International Amphibian Day website and contact Beth Davis soon. IAD is April 29, April 30, and May 1 2005.

Mark, the same question was already asked TWICE in the thread above. It is answered, and a web link is also given (twice).

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
