Hi everyone, I just joined here the other day looking for information on how to help my axolotl who survived a jump out of her tank and a few hours on the ground last week (Tuesday Dec 3).
I am currently in college studying aquariums and marine biology so I know the basics of aquatic animal keeping but def not an expert on axolotls. I've had her for a year and no problems so far until this.
When I first put her back in the tank when I found her after the jump her skin was peeling off all over since it had dried out, but seemed to get back to normal within two days. She had a big spot on her underside that had a perimeter of peeling that wasn't coming off as quick as the rest of her body (I didn't peel any myself just let it come off naturally) but now that area is starting to separate from the rest of her body and it's a much thicker and large piece coming off. I think this is the most damaged area cause that's where she landed/ was sitting on the rug until I found her and it was probably absorbing the most water. She doesn't seem to have any injured limbs or gills but this morning in addition to the underside injury peeling she has white fuzz under her chin. It's evidently either a fungus or bacteria, I'm not sure how / if it's possible can tell which. I know that salt baths can be used to treat those (2 times a day for a week or so) but I don't know if that's a good idea if it would irritate her seemingly open wound that's peeling. I have her tank at a cool temp so she heals the best and isn't stressed and I've had aquarium safe tea in as well. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated :)

ensure that there isn't an underlining cause for escape ie.. water parameters, oxygenation, fit/use preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence.
try to make the water as optimum for healing as possible, change water weekly, fifty percent max, use 50% holtfreters solution + 0.1g,/l magnesium sulphate, water temperature as close to 15°c/59°f as possible.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!
