In responste to the topic 'this took a long time'

There are some great salamanders in Guatemala. I spent 2 weeks there several years ago and we had an awesome time looking for salamanders. Some of the places we went were not terribly far from guatemala city, but I know transportation is not that easy sometimes.

erik do you remember the name, because ive being looking for them with the biologist school society or something like that and theyve told me they're in honduras and costa rica but not here.

samuel, look up Bollitoglossa. they are great salamanders and are arboreal/ semi arboreal in habit from what i understand. good luck

i know its not the subject of the discusion but thanks for the info, i already contact a guy that have seen them so i might go get a pair, to start a c.b. and expand the species kept, we have only 2 types here in guatemala and as erick sayd its very hard to get where theyre at. ill post pictures when i get some of them and maybe if its possible take some to the u.s.

Now coming back to the vivarium subject ive being painting the foam in a blay-brown-gray color to makit look natural ill post pictures whe its all done, but as ive seen the waterproofing material works very well for the purpose, because for now the test foam have being under water for almost a week and havent loose any color to the water.

As for the cocopeat do you think the orchid base coconut fiber crushed will work and, how good would be mixing it with some garden earth and a bit of sand???

hey guys, sorry i havnt gotten around to posting the "how to" on building a viv. i have been very busy. i have 2 weeks to find a place to live in phoenix and move in. my girlfriend got a job for the state and it was on very short notice, so we are trying to get the ball rollin here. i do need to build a bunch of 10 gallon vert vivs. im in the process of building one now actually and i am taking pics of the whole process. this style of viv is not suitable for salamanders, but it will give you a good idea of what im talking about. after i get moved in, i am going to be building a 150 gallon viv for a good friend of mine. this one will be designed more for salamanders. i will post that one up as well. take care.
