ID on this Newt Please

I posted this one back over a year ago, there was no real answer and I dont recall what the possibles were. Does anyone know what this is? I picked him up at my local petland shortly after he arrived.

Doesn't look like an easy ID at all, it has a lot of characteristics of a few species...

Is it bloated or perhaps gravid?

I don't know about gravid, but it was not bloated because it is still alive and healthy since this picture was taken. It was taken on Oct. 27 2007.
So you think its a girl?

I once saw them at a pet store and were labeled warty newts.

It is definately a Paramesotriton. The colouration suggests P. chinensis to me.

I think that it is P. chinensis as well.

i disbelieve it is P. chinensis.
The exalted wartys are typical for Paramesotriton fuzhongensis.
But i agree it is a female.

Does anyone know of a dichotomous key to the Newts of the world I could follow? I know, I might be asking for too much.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking through the cal photos, and well according to the photos I have narrowed it down to either
P. chinensis
P. fuzhongensis
P. honkongensis

Actually I too was leaning towards P. fuzhongensis

I would rule out hongkongensis. They usually have a smoother skin than yours, and I've never seen one that didn't have orange on the belly.

I don't think it is P. hongkongensis, as the skin is too rough, and the colouration looks wrong. I agree that the warts are much more like P. fuzhongensis, although the colouration looks more like P. chinensis. Basically, this genus is a mess, and there are a number of of un-named forms that come into the pet market....

I'm not know what it's your newt, im not an expert but i in n.2 pic remember one Fuzghonensis,.... i have P.chinensis, and P.fuzghonensis, but it's very dificult ID this animals,and there are not more information.... i sent pics of my P.F. at this forum for confirme the ID http://www.caudata.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58970
