How did this happen?

Hey, first, again, I am sorry for the SUPER late reply. I just messaged you but I am going to reply here as well.

Did you immediately get all the fungus out of the water? Sometimes the salt bath wouldn't make the fungus come off immediately and I'd put her back in her tank and she'd slither down to the bottom and THEN it would fall off. I always sucked it up with a turkey baster and put it in a bowl so I could look at it.

I have to ask, how are you cleaning your sponge filter? Because all I do is take them out back and ring them out real quick, then put them back in the tank. I never run tap water through them or anything. That way the bacteria remains and is able to help.

He's almost without fungus. Just one tiny spot left! It usually comes off in the salt bath. The tub water is finally looking clean too, so no weird fuzzy particles in the water before I do a water change.

I read that if you're doing a fishless cycle that you don't need to clean your filter so I haven't. I figured I would wring it once the cycle finishes. But if you think that might be an issue let me know.

No no, I think your filter is good. Don't ring it out unless it like, sucks up a bunch of poo or it looks like it's got stuff on the outside. My girl's new sand is super...gooey, it's an inferior quality to her old sand, and it leaves this sludge-like residue on the filters. I Just left them out of the water and scrap the sludge off with my finger nails, literally just sand.

I'm glad you're in the home stretch with the gill fungus. Glad things are better.
