HELPHELPHELP!!!!! My toads laid eggs!!!!

spirulina is algae, another thing you could do is culture up some infusoria, you place a piece of lettuce in boiling water for a few seconds and then place it in pond water or water from a water butt, this is very important. in abut 48 hours you'll see a green cloud in the water, just tip that in and they will feed on it.

I'm already finding good ways to save money with the raising of these little guys. For the little tubs, I went over to the dollar store and got some half-of-a-shoe-box sized storage tubs that I can keep five/six tads in each one. They were only 99 cents each because they have no lids (no problem for me....I don't need lids.

And I think you're right - there are probably people around here who might like some tads.

Will - could I use water from a puddle near me? It usually sits there for about a week or so after each rain. (It doesn't rain here often.) Could I use water from there?

hummm... i'm not sure, you could try it. when you mean a puddle do you mean a little puddle or a temporary pond?

Keep in mind if you do this you're exposing your tadpoles to pathogens and parasites they wouldn't normally be exposed to and it could kill them. Also there are all kinds of little insects that make their homes in temporary puddles that will try to eat your tads.

It's a temporary pond, really. It gets to be about 5 feet across and 8 or 9 feet long. Only about 5-6 inches deep, though.

Could I strain predator insects out with a brine shrimp net? I don't know what to do about the other stuff. I might, at first, just work with a little bit in one of the tubs. I don't want to hurt my tads! I'm going to find out if there is a GNC up near my brother's house....
