My 14 yr old paddletail newt, noodle, has what appears to be an injury/sore/infection on the end of his tail. I’m trying to get him seen by an exotic vet who knows anything about newts, but it’s proving difficult. I can probably get him seen tomorrow but not sure how knowledgeable the vet will be. We were turned away by a different exotic vet yesterday because they weren’t familiar with newts. Can anyone at least help diagnose? I’m very worried about him. I’ve read the info on common ailments and cures, but I’m at a loss because I don’t know what’s wrong.
It was looking less red before—just kind of like the end of his tail was white-ish, and I thought it may have been a fungal infection, so I did a big water change and moved him to a colder room to get him from 70 degrees to 53 degrees. The next day (yesterday), I noticed that he had these redder bits within the pale section and became very concerned so I tried taking him to the vet, which didn’t pan out. I have given him a ten minute salt bath yesterday and today out of desperation. I have also purchased kanaplex but am scared to use it.
