HELP! URGENT!!

Hi, Wondering if anyone can help with a sick axolotl, he has gone downhill in the past few hrs. Hasn't eaten in a cpl week and look very thin tonight he has been sitting with his mouth open and won't close it his gills have also started to droop forward and he isn't moving. Have reduced the water level and water flow, there is no other signs of anything being wrong and the water quality is fine.

Hi Natasha,
When you say the water quality is fine what does that mean?
What is the temperature, pH, ammonia and nitrite levels.
How long has the tank been set up? How often are you performing water changes? What was the axolotl eating prior to this problem? What are you filtering the water with?
Is there gravel on the bottom of the tank?

He died late last night.....Temp is 22 degress (its really hot here in Perth Australia) large pebbles on bottom of tank, changing the water once a week with a siphon (20%) no ammonia or nitrate and PH is around 7.5.
Now I am wondering if anybody knows what could of caused his death it was good friday and I rang all he emerency vets and no one knew anything about them....after he died his skin went very pink I don't know is this is normal or something to do with what was I wrong, I want to protect my 2nd one who is very fat and healthy.
Oh, and he hadn't eaten in over a week prior to this I feed pellets, fresh beef heart and liver, bloodworms and blackworms. The water is filtered with an external filter fitted with a spraybar and one small airstone (slow flow)

Hi Natasha,
It sounds like there was some underlying issue going on with the axolotl. There are multiple causes that result in symptoms that you saw in your axolotl. Bacterial infections, impactions, calcium deficency are all possibilities. Without a necropsy, there is no way to determine if your other axolot is at risk or not.

My axolotl just died the same way. She stopped eating about a week and a half ago. She just died a few hours ago. The water conditions in my tank were fine as well. I'm not sure what went wrong.

It's strange.....
I am unsure how old mine was when I got it (I think it was actually a she) but she was quite big almost 30cm long, it's so hard to find anyone who knows anything about how to help them in western australia.

Maybe it was an old age thing. Mine was given to me by someone else who had bought her as an adult and had her for three years herself. I never knew how old she was. She didn't even seem sick until the final few hours.
