Question: Help. hot water :(

Hi all,

Recently i have seen quite a few temperature posts on here and i myself also had this issue, I tried using a tall desk fan to aid water movement and also switched to an Eheim filter which has a venturi to increase oxygenation, I have tried the obvious ice bottles etc but it didnt help too much. And aquarium water coolers are highly expensive.

I am going to make a post on the free-for-all for an cheap method to cool your aquarium. Please check it out

Regards Martin

Hi
Well when I ordered it, there were 2 different sizes, the one I got was designed for 45lt tanks which is the size I have got and the 6 one was for bigger. I am experimenting at the moment, I have just turned it off to see whether the temp increases or not, I am not convinced by the fans, they just do not seem that powerful, but there could be better ones out there. I still want a chiller but can not afford one :(

Hi vampy babe check out my post in the other section about a home made chiller, it works a treat

cool, ive just looked. thanks. good little project for the fella I think :)

Hi... I don't know what your budget will allow,,,, if it's anything like mine then you are probably sharing food with your dog..... but I got one of these:

CoolWorks Ice Probe with Power Supply - eBay (item 180517610843 end time Sep-05-10 09:43:24 PDT)

I found one like this one and made the guy an offer of about $50 US were it says "Make Offer". Sometimes it says that. Guy took the offer and I paid 10 bucks to ship it. It's supposed to work well on 50l tanks. It can maintain Temps on my 210l but can't lower them at all.
I'm going to try it on my ten when I get a chance to mount it.
Search under "Coolworks" or "Ice Probe" or both. You never know.
Just be aware that if you make an offer and the guy accepts... you bought it and are expected to pay for it pretty soon.

Yes, similar non existent budget :(It is a shame the guy does n0t ship internationally though. maybe the home made one will be the solution. I unplugged the fan for a bit and temp went up to 21.8. I have turned it back on and its now 21, could be coincidence but I will continue to monitor.
Random question, how are spiders for axie food :) stupid things keep running across my floor, urgh hate them!! lol

Being 'financially-challenged' is something I can relate to, all too well :(

If I can offer any advice, I would say ' Mac, try the dog food smothered in ketchup'.
Myself, I go down to Kentuky Fried Chicken and lick other peoples' fingers....

The best thing for spiders is to stick a pint glass over them, then slide a piece of paper gently underneath the glass, then head for the back door to release it.
I wouldn't take the risk of feeding an axie a spider, even if it is a common British house-spider ;)

Hope this helps

Ha ha, funny you should say that..... I have a dedicated glass for catching them. The fella then comes and takes them away to release them over the neighbours garden :)

I'm off to pick them up today, just done another test ph still about 8, ammonia 0, nitrite still kind of a light see through pinky purple so guessing around 0.1- 0.3 and nitrate is im guessing between 10 and 20 still pink in colour but looks alot lighter when held up rather than on the bit of paper.
just done a 20% water change too.
added hornwort yesterday too, hope it helps the cycling process.
