Hand Buds

Not to dogpile you here, Dawn, but I have to agree with Andy and Tom. These photographs don't show a proper respect for the animals. It is stressful for the animals and quite unnecessary to put them in these setups.

When you pose these animals and treat them like dolls one has to wonder. I know you really do care for your animals, though. We just want you to think about this.

Thank you, Michelle.

Dawn, I just want to make sure you don't get the wrong idea from my initial post. I honestly and truly believe that you really do the best for your animals.

It's just that the pictures you posted can send the wrong message to people and can make you look bad to others. There are far too many people who consider animals playthings and useful for human amusement only. They do not consider these creatures to be truly alive and deserving of respect. These pictures promote that image of the newts being merely an object.

I mean you no ill will and I do not want to insult you at all. You have a good heart and your animals seem really well cared for. I just want you to appreciate the meaning and baggage associated with these pictures.

I can explain more if you like.

Whilst I can't say that I'm in favour of this sort of photograph, the newts look like they've been placed on or near things, rather than being "dressed up" or something. I doubt much long term harm was done, if any.

I think the point has been made to Dawn with regard to treatment of animals and I'm sure she understands what provoked such strong responses. Can we please now let this be.

I agree with John. These were taken two years ago and I think that Dawn knows better and she isn't taking these pics anymore. She takes much good care of her newts so I think we should stop criticising and not make her feel too bad.

Let's all move on. Stop posting on this thread.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
