Here's a picture of one of my Eastern Newts about six months after losing both front hands

But she's doing very well.

After she (and another newt, who lost one hand) lost their limbs, I put them in the hospital tank for a few months, where I made it really easy for them to eat, until they had hands enough to get along in the community tank.
Just in case anyone's interested in how they look when they grow back.
In my experience with lost limbs in these and chinese fire bellies, they get small little hands quickly, and over a period of 1-2 years their hands gradually get larger until you can't tell anymore.

It is hard to believe she lost both front hands. She looks amazing!

THAT PICTURE IS AWESOME!!! Where did you get those little props?

Beautiful with talent! What else could a male newt ask for?
lol.gif
Seriously though Dawn how did she lose both front hands? It must have been difficult to watch.

The props I bought in the dollhouse section of a craft store. See also my avatar, they're playing parchesi. I have a few more I'll post if you're interested. I have one driving in a car (trying to run that gecko off the road) and bowling. And a tea party.
All she ever plays is chopsticks. Over and over and over.
I believe that her hands were bitten off by a leech. I posted about this earlier:

scroll down to the 5th entry and start reading from there.

The poor thing! Glad she's better & pat yourself on the back for helping her, Although chopsticks over & over would almost drive a person insane

.They are adorable pictures & yes please keep posting they sound funny I am sure other people including myself would love to see them. What an interesting little hobby.

Hey, maybe that's why the leech bit off her hands. He couldn't stand chopsticks one more time.

I can only joke now that it's been so long and she's OK. At the time, I was horrified!

she looks amazing! What a great recovery.
haha... chopsticks.

ahh, scary leeches. Now I'm going to have to search my blackworms more carefully. I found a flatworm in there last week...

Teach her a new tune!? Just kidding, I would have been freaking out too. I agree damned leeches!

Yes please post more pics =) Glad to hear that she's all better and ready to hit the stage again. Maybe a chopsticks remix this time around.

OK, here they are!
Now, please don't worry that my newts were hurt during the making of these photos. They were never out of the water longer than a minute. Also the photos were taken back in 2005, and I still have all of these newts and they're all doing great.

I find the pictures revolting, Dressing up a animal for role playing is not helping anyone to learn how to take care of it raise it breed or anything else constructive. The trauma forced on this animals by childish behavior does not reflect in anyway a serious attitude to breeding rearing or keeping them , I for one wish this thread to be deleted!

woah! Thomas that was pretty harsh, although I do believe it is sort of childish, I do not at all believe the pictures are revolting!

I agree with Tom...treating these animals like toys is one of the most ridiculous things i've seen on the forum. What's the point of subjecting your animals to this?....for amusement? I certainly didn't think it was funny in the slightest. I'm passionate about these animals and have been for pretty much all my life. My only interests are with keeping and breeding these animals as best i can.

Dawn, in another thread i read that you would like to make contact with serious European breeders...do you think this would happen after posting pictures like this?

now that i think of it this is pretty messed up!
