Eggs - Day 12

Day 12:

They all have eyes and you can clearly see the gills with the naked eye now, 3 gills on each side. Not sure how they will break out of their eggs sacks as the clear sack is mega strong. I count 33 of them ready to hatch.

Re: Eggs - Day 13

When they're ready to hatch, they secrete a hormone that dissolves the egg sack. Should be any day now!

ooo, i'm now tempted to get a batch of eggs instead of trying to source an axolotl in Stoke, looks fascinating watching them develop :D

Its day 15 now and the eggs will not hatch, i am getting frustrated, wish they would hurry up and hatch.
My baby brine shrimp that I made are now dying as cant use it.

They can take sometimes 3 weeks to hatch. Just be patient.

Once the first one hatches, then start your brine shrimp hatchery. Axolotls won't eat for ~24 hours after hatching, until they absorb their yolk-sac, and brine shrimp take 24 hours to hatch. Convenient!

is the yolk sack the jelly egg its currently in? or is it something else?
if something else do you have a pic of this sack?

The yolk sac is the grey/yellow patch on their belly. You won't be able to see when it's absorbed completely, so just start offering food 24 hours later. Then offer food every couple of hours for the next couple of weeks.

your information was totally wrong, two hatched today and within an hour they were eating the 20 small daphnia I had swimming about with them. In space of 2 hours only 3 daphnia remained, so it is obvious they eat as soon as they are born.

Okay, let me rephrase: They don't usually eat for around 24 hours after hatching.

In the future, refrain from using inflammatory phrases.

They hatch at day 15? Normaly they start to hatch at day 21 or even later. And they won´t eat for 1-2 days after hatching. Maybe you keep them to warm? The watertemperature is about 10-18°C here.
