Gersfeld road trip 2013

It would be great if you all could come. The more souls the merrier. Remeber that the evening program consists out of a variety of culinary experiences such as trying German dishes like Bockwurst (Currywurst is also great!), Jägerschnitzel, Kartoffelsalat and Sauerkraut. I really enjoyed something called Bier. It's possible to consume this in large quantities throughout the evening, which I did. They told me I had a wonderful time, so I can really recommend coming to Gersfeld this year! :p

I agree Germany has many culinary delights, I once had a wonderful weekend fuelled by Jagermeister and the aforementioned mysterious bier. I had not come accross it before but can confirm it is wonderful stuff with many restorative powers, it is highly recommended for teachers who have succumbed to pupil related lurgies, 5 litres of the stuff and a germ won't dare come near you ;)

Neils everyone in the UK is very eager to join you and all the guys from Europe .money and circumstance is the main draw back that is why we are trying to organise it so every person /maniac can afford to go to gersfeld and meet the fellow caudate fanatic.
The biggest Detterent for brittish people is cost ,I wont tell my wife how much it costs so i don't have a budget.
I hope we can gather together and make an appearance and also take some caudata for trade /sale
hopefully see you niels and the rest of the dutch, german, french and rest of European team soon
I hope more guys from the UK team up and go....
VIVA LA GERSFELD!!! long live the newt/molche
or something

It's allready a real effort to make it myself, so I can imagine how difficult it must be for you island dwellers. :D The only reason I can go is the fact that my partner shares this hobby with me. She's having our first baby at the end of september if all goes well and she still wants me to go to check for new animals.... I'm a lucky man.

It would be really great if there would be an expo in the UK as well though. That would result into two weekends full with ranting on about newts and sals and destroying my body with too much calories and alchohol each year! Imagine how wonderful it would be.

To be honest the journey would purely be enhanced by the fact you can drink the amazing Warsteiner!! :p haha

Shall see you all there!

Has anyone booked accommodation yet?
travel looked into?
...have room for a small one?
I am looking to book time off around then... :D

I also want very much to go to Gersfeld, but indeed it's an expensive party. I plan to go to my sister's place in Amsterdam and show up in the meeting for at least one day, because i guess i might not have cash to overnight... but we'll see. I'm trying to join the Gersfeld party for two years already i think, and it's about damn time to get there and meet so many people i met on internet, in real life.

Okay it's official, Gersfeld here I come! :D
Flights are payed for!
Accommodation booked!
Time off work booked!
Route planned!

..just need to send off the forms for my passport to be renewed !

Hi ya guys,

little update from me, It's kinda up in the air for me as to if I will still be going, as since this discovery of Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans it's kind of put me off getting any Caudata from Mainland Europe :/

I haven't had the chance to look into the disease further as I have been incredibly busy at work but after being advised from a few friends, I might not be going. :/

This does mean I am going to have to get refunded for the hotel etc unless any of you can convince me to come :p

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
