Funky results for fishless cycling

either way will work just fine. The food version is a method of introducing ammonia, using pure ammonia just skips the middle man, but whichever way you're more comfortable with.

Alright, cool. The ammonia level still hasn't changed :(. Do you think I should start over again or wait a week?

You are doing water changes right? Would your tap water happen to have ammonia readings in it right from the tap?

well if you still have ammonia in your tank, you're still cycling, so there really isn't a "starting over". Just wait it out till the ammonia drops.
Chloramines in the tap may very well explain this problem as well

Yeah chloramines had me ALL confused till I tested my tap. If The tap has ammonia when tested then your tank is probably cycled already!

No I checked and all the levels for nitrite, nitrate and ammonia are 0 ppm. I haven't changed the water recently since the ammonia hasn't increased. Should I do that anyway?

Why change water if you don't have any animals in the tank? Just let it alone :) see how it goes. I never change water if there are no animals.

Ok, thanks guys! I really appreciate all your help and I'll let you know when things change.
