First newts or sals

I've unfortunately never found newts - though I had found quite a bit of frogs/toads when I was younger.

My first newt that I kept was from a friend of mine in 7th grade. She had her Chinese fire-bellied newt and it wasn't eating and was getting thinner and thinner each day. I had dreams of wanting to be an exotic animals vet, so I adopted it from her. She had claimed to have her newt for 2 years before it got sick, and once I adopted it, I had it for another 6 years before it passed away.

Man, I just fell in love with him. He would blow bubbles at me when I was working at my desk and try to escape a LOT.

And from then on, I needed to have my Chinese fire-bellied newts. Never mind a dog or cat - give me a newt!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
