Fire salamander trouble

Best to avoid it. Carpet moss and others like it work very well. However, you can use leaf-litter alone, and it will still work.

I get a kind of light loam by the woods edge, compress it a little with the hand, make hiding places with rocks and bark, then moss and leaves - some isopods - and feeding

Re: AW: Re: Fire salamander trouble

Thank you very much for taking the time to shoot these images and share them with me. Today I added some dry leaves, and pieces of birch bark for him to hide under (all on top of the coco fiber). He seems so far to enjoy having all the options of places to hide and burrow. I'll give him a few days, and offer food. By the way do you dig up that moss from outside? Does it stay alive with uv light?. Thanks again. I appreciate the help!!

Re: AW: Re: Fire salamander trouble

Most moss does just fine with a low-light area. You can harvest it from outside, but you have to be sure there are no chemicals present in the moss or soils.
