Sure, but it´d be best if you create a new thread on the anuran section of the forums (specifically the Pipidae subsection).
I confess i haven´t read the whole thread but i see you are considering axolotls instead of H.orientalis or a tiger salamander which i think is a good choice, but i just wanted to bring up another possibility, Pleurodeles waltl, which is also ideal for beginners and depending on the climate of where you live may even be a better choice.

While waltl aren't pretty, they have a great personality (har har!).

I agree they're not the most attractive newts, but they're really hardy, and hilarious.
