Hello, my axolotl is ~11 years old. Last night I found him spending a lot of time near the surface, this morning I noticed he was still spending a lot of time at the surface. I poked him with my finger and he went under but then came back up. I went to work and now I came home to find him on his side underwater mostly unresponsive. Air came out of him as I move him. I took him out of the water and he move slightly shook him gently but little response. I placed him back in and upright, he is likely still alive as he moved his head sideways and yawned slightly and raised the tail. I also notice his cloaca is very swollen, his tail looks more pale like no blood is in it, gills look like haemorrhages have happened, he does not appear to be flapping them at all.
I'm doubtful anything can be done but any tips would be appreciated.
