Has anyone heard of a pet store by this name? It is the name of a new store opening up by me. On the window they are advertising reptiles, amphibians, supplies, educational activities, fish, and I think that's it. I went to the website they have written on the window but that's all it said is "Coming Soon". I guess I'm trying to find out if this is a chain or a private pet store. I'm actually quite excited about it.

Ryan, if you want I'll let you know what they are selling.

I'm especially interested in knowing what kind of live feed they might have available since none of the pet stores I go to carry live bloodworms or blackworms.

I would be interested in what they are selling, I have never heard of this store. New stores like this are always nice.

I believe that's the one-of-a-kind store owned by a guy named John Raymond. He specializes in large, Amazonian fishes and is a fairly active vendor on some of the primitive fish forums (www.waterwolves.com, www.monsterfishkeepers.com, etc.). He's a very good guy and very knowledgeable about what he does. I highly recommend him.

As for amphibians, I know he offers aquatic caecilians from time to time. As for live foods, I have no idea.

Thanks! Since I live so close, I'm sure to become one of their best customers and will get to know the owner. I'll keep you guys updated.

When do you think they're opening? I'm taking a road trip to RI soon (in may) and I love visiting pet stores. I'd be interested to know what they have also, especially if they've got unusual stuff.

I'm thinking any day now. They have the windows decorated and everytime I drive by, which is pretty much every day, there is a pickup parked in front of the door. I'm also checking their website everyday which, by the way, still says "Coming soon".

Dawn, if you're interested in historical homes (lots of history here in Rhode Island), I live in one built in the 1700s visited by Lafayette and Rochambeau(spelling?) before they progressed to the Battle of Yorktown. My family always welcomes visitors who want a tour.

I'm going out because I have a burning desire to see "Rough Point" in Newport...I'll pm you. Cool!

I have been burned by John Raymond before for 450.00. He is an absolute ego-maniac. I would be cautious.

I'll let you guys know who the owner is once it opens and I find out.

No, I didn't. I checked my spam to make sure you didn't get filtered out, either. I'll pm you again and I'll include my email address. I wonder what happened?

Any updates on the store?

Do you have the website for the store?

The store will open sometime before Easter, so one of the owners hopes. I've been emailing him about types of food they will sell. They still need to get checked out by the DEM.

John Raymond is not the owner.

The website is eastcoastzoological.com

They opened today! The place is awesome! Especially if you like different types of animals. The have 2 fairly large alligators in their own enclosure. Different types of monitor lizards. There were two huge ones which the owner let my 4 year old and I touch. A huge boa, lots of different snakes, tarantulas, turtles, and frogs. I saw my very first pipa pipa. Very weird but oh so cool! He had a fire salamander along with different tree frogs. They are not entirely set up yet. One wall will be devoted to amphibians. They are waiting for their breeder to have other salamander/newts ready. He said it was tough to know which kind he'll have since it is breeding season and they are trying to get whatever they can. And yes, Ryan, they are going to try to get a mudpuppy!

As for food, they will try to get whatever their patrons want. I asked about live bloodworms and blackworms. He told me to email him Thursday and he will check with his dealer.

They are also doing educational programs. 2 preschools have already signed them up (including my daughter's) and an adult book group. I asked him what they do during the programs and he said they will be teaching people how to care for them and why certain animals (alligators, etc.) are not good pets. They'll be bringing one of the alligators, the boa constrictor, one of the huge monitors, and some other animals to show them.

My daughter and I loved it there! She even watched one of the snakes throw up the rejected part of the mouse it ate. We will definitely be going there again.

Awesome, I might go check it out the weekend!! There is a new pet store open down at the south end that a friend told me about. It won't be as good as this place though.

Could you tell me the address?

Let me know if they have any Tarichas. I'll bang in to work and drive right up!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
