OK so I saw a thing on here about dangers of keeping different critters in with axies, and the aftermath of those things being eaten and injuring the axie. There were pictures of different fish with spikeys sticking through the axies faces and things. Well I finally switched from blood worms to earth worms yesterday, and cut them into smaller peices for the axies. One of my axies is half the size of the others and I think has not been getting to eat because the others take all the food (maybe accounting for his lack of growth? there are 6 together) anyways I took him out and put him in his own house, that way he is not at risk anymore of being injured by them and I can monitor what he eats. He scarfed down the earth worm pieces like nobody's business!! Which was great, until I realized that the piece with the "head" of the worm was not dangling from his mouth, but form the side of his neck like in those pictures of axies who had eaten dangerous fish. OMG I was so grossed out! The worm was wiggling about, trying to get away I suppose. I thought okay I can either leave it and maybe my axie will die, or try and take it out and hopefully he will heal. SO I got the tweezer and went to grab the tip of the worm, and it sucked itself back into the axie's neck. Suddenly my axie started to gape and make swallowing motions, and he spit the worm out successfully
I can't see any wound, so I'm wondering if there is a slit in in the neck somwhere that the worm could have been poking through? I'm just baffled... I mean how the heck could a worm poke itself through the skin... I wouldn't have ever imagined that they could be that strong. ANd now I am worried about feeding worms again... is this something that happens with worms or is it a weird fluke? I took pictures but I forgot my camera to upload them
Thanks for sorting through that rant, I hope it wasn't too confusing.
