/FILM 08 April 08 Pixar Announces Up, Newt, The Bear and the Bow and Cars 2 (Peter Sciretta)

Summer 2011: Newt marks the directing debut of multiple Academy Award winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom, who made his Pixar debut with the short film Lifted, which premiered in front of Ratatouille. What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science. Will be released in Disney Digital 3-D™.

Sounds interesting, my youngest son will only be 4 then so I will have an excuse to watch it ha!

Well done Disney - thank you for causing the huge increase in demand and resultant deaths of newts that will be caused by this movie.

I just remembered the "Finding Nemo" fiasco here in Northern California... this movie must fail. I don't wish that kind of fair-weather pet keeping on any species.

Im begining to think i must either go around wearing blinkers or rose coloured glasses.
My first thought was raising peoples awareness of the problems that can occur with endangered species, yet, straight away that thought is knocked down by the negative side.
I suppose i am going to have to get with the times and learn to be more cynical instead of seeing the good in things all the time.

Disney to realease...

Yes, no doubt the fall out will be similar to the Finding Nemo film, but at least in the UK that didn't go too far because of the cost and expertise needed to keep reef fish.

It could be more like the Mutant Ninja Turtles release which some of you will be old enough to remember. A friend of mine was rehoming red eared slider turtles for years after that craze and I know a pond in Lancashire where last Summer there were still three remaining dumped sliders (which fortunately can't breed in the UK climate).

Hopefully the dyers of tropical fish won't get together with importers of C. orientalis to provide blue-footed newts!

I guess there is no such thing as a blue footed newt is there?

Not that I've ever heard of. It's kind of insulting they crossed a booby with a newt. What are they trying to say?

I would love to believe that it would increase awareness but it seems to do the opposite. The Finding Nemo craze resulted in people coming into Petco grabbing a bowl and marching over the Marine section and asking for a "Nemo fish" to take home. Most of these people were planning on just dumping table salt into the bowl.

Then there is the 101 Dalmatians craze. Dalmatians make bad family dogs (plus bad breeding practices to make a quick buck) and shelters began to fill with them. The above mentioned Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles situation and I heard Ratatouille inspired a surge in rat sales.

TMNT was bad, even in Ireland where I'm from. I have seen rats selling in pet stores while I was there and I too believe it's down to Ratatouille. In fact the name "Newtatouille" crossed my mind...

So many people get sliders and give them inadequete care and then they all end up at rescue organizations(if they are lucky). The rescue organization I got my box turtle from had loads of sliders on petfinder(and probably more that were'nt listed). It really gets on my nerves! I'm not that mad at the people because they probably don't understand how much care they require, but I'd really wish people would not impulsively buy animals.

On a lighter note.
I wonder how many people rushed out and bought BEES when bee movie was released.

If they like Jerry Seinfeld as much as I do, they rushed out and burned his effigy rather than buy bees.

To clear up the confusion, I detest Jerry Seinfeld (sorry Seinfeld fans, the guy is a tick on humanity).

Well it will be just another passing phase no doubt. And if the shops can't keep up with the demand then people will catch them in the wild, but then I've seen posts on here from members catching from the wild too, so we're all to blame.

Finally! I have never known someone who hates Seinfeld as I do.

I feel like I am finally home. All my friends love him, but he isn't funny. At. All.
My wife loves Seinfeld. She even has a Kramer poster. I never liked Seinfeld but when I saw how he reacted when Larry King mis-spoke in his interview with Seinfeld about Seinfeld being fired, well, let's just say I wouldn't have a problem with the youth in Asia.

We had some clown fish in the coral exhibit at Bristol zoo when I worked there. They suffered a daily barrage of glass thumping and shouting of "NEMO". It was non stop. The fish thought they were in hell. Hopefully the parents will soak up the endangered message of Disney's newt movie and we won't get any wanted ads for "blue footed newts" (although I may be tempted to approve them ).

We don't get Seinfeld here. Based on the number of caudate fans that loath him it's probably for the best.

Poor fish. Maybe we should feed them pieces of Seinfeld. lol.

I wonder if there is any connection with amphibians and hating Seinfeld. And did you know that every episode of Seinfeld has a picture of superman in it?

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
