Cynops ensicauda popei embryos & larvae

Thanks for the assessment Nate. I noticed one last night that's showing noticeably more colour than before. I sincerely hope it stays aquatic for at least another 5 mm - feeding frozen bloodworms on a coctail stick gets old...

Tim Johnson, what do you make of these guys?

One possibility to increase the interval before metamorphosis would be to keep them in very small groups or even singly in well-sized containers/tanks.

Well, John, those of mine that hatched around the same time as yours are only now starting to morph. I had the first morph about a week ago and two have morphed over the last three days, but about 40 in this particlar group have yet to morph. I'd guess you can expect your first morph within the next couple of weeks and staggered morphings over the next month

Great pictures John
You can actually see more with your camera than with the naked eye. Beautiful!

And that one posing for you is a-do-ra-ble

Tim, Ralf and Nate, thanks for the comments and advice. Ralf, I'd like to do as you suggest but space and time don't allow for that at the moment. They are kept at a low density in a tank with lots of java moss and a filter, as well as heater to maintain the temperature at about 20-22 degrees Celsius. They get a diet of Daphnia, live bloodworms (since the weather improved here) and frozen bloodworms. They got earthworm pieces once last week too. Very well fed larvae
