Cycle huh??? mass tank confusion

why do you want to use the jungle start? It justs sounds like a water conditioner, that gets rid of chlorine and chloramine (sp?) etc... - I use stress coat when doing the water changes.. Apart from this, I don't think it will help for your cycling.

As for the pimafix if it concerning your sick axie, might be best to post in a new thread under Sick area.

ok heres my #'s right now...

ammonia=4.0
nitrite=0
nitrate=0

thats normal right? my ammonia should be high at first and then start to drop as the others rise right?

oh and when the tank is cycled, is it ok to use perfect ph again? (its different than ph up or ph down, it sets the ph to 7)

is ph important when cycling your tank? it doesnt seem to say that it is anywhere...

Yes that's normal. I assume your axie is in another container :D, so u don't have to worry about waterchanging.

During cycling our tanks ph ranged between 7.6-8. We have never used any PH chemicals to alter our tanks' ph. They currently sit on 7.4-7.6 and our axies are fine. But we are always testing our tank water esp. on our unfiltered tanks (weekly on filtered tanks/ every 2/3days on unfiltered).

Some people add bird grit in a stocking to their tank or shells (but can't remember whether the ph goes up or down with them, someone else might be able to help; if u have live plants in tank they can lower the ph)

But I wud wait till the tank is cycled b4 worrying about the ph esp. if your axie isn't in there.

BTW what is your ph level normally, ie: without adding perfect ph to it?

Also on the axolotl org site it states that a ph of 6.5-8.0 is acceptable, but that 7.4-7.6 is ideal.

ok great....yes she is in a bin and seems to be okay with it. My ph is usually 8.0 when i dont put anything in it, thats why i was asking. As for live plants, i think thats too much for me.

pH doesn't disrupt the cycle unless it gets below about a pH of 4-5 so in general it isn't a problem. However at lower pHs, ammonia becomes protenated to ammonium which is nontoxic to aquatic animals.

ok checked everything again and my levels are this now...

ammonia=4.0
nitrite=5.0ppm
nitrate=0.50ppm

This is normal right? lol sorry if i keep asking i just wanna know everything is going smoothly

now that the other levels are rising, what am i suppose to do.....Should i feed the bacteria yet?

Some people save the axie poo from spot cleaning the containers and put it into the cycling tank. You could try that as that is what the bacteria will be eating ne way.

Yes, that seems normal. :D I wudn't add anything else yet, just keep posting your tests here.

does it mess up the whole cycling process to take your filter out and rinse it? I have an internal filter and it has to be rinsed weekly

No need to rinse your filter at all while it is cycling. It gives it a chance for the good bacteria to grow on the filter media.

ok.....but the clog button is up and i think its gonna stop running if i dont rinse it......

ah what's the clog button (I don't have that on any of my internals)

oh i have a fluval 3 plus and there is this yellow "clog button" that pops up when there is too much poo in the filter...it basically indicates when it needs to be rinsed.

Honestly cudn't answer that one! We didn't clean our filter/s at all while cycling. If u don't get an answer in this thread on it maybe start a new thread and ask. You might get a faster answer.

no need to rinse it while cycling, and axies dont make too much mess, i would probably clean them bi weekly but make sure its always rinsed in tank water (ie put some in a bucket to rinse media in).

ok, heres my levels today.

ammonia=0.25ppm

nitrate=40ppm

nitrite=2.0ppm

are there any specific things im suppose to do at this point?

oh and is it normal for white stuff to start building up on the surface of the water?
