Has anyone ever fed their axies cooked meat?9 that didn't have any thing added to it. I just wondered if it would be harmful to ever give a bit of the inside of cooked chicken or meat?

Great question! I've been wondering about that myself...
Sorry I can't help.

I've fed mine cooked mussels and prawns but i'd stop short of a Sunday roast.

I saw cooked mussels sold in the freezer cabinet of my lfs, but din't buy them as I was not sure. Would they be ok to give to my axie? Any expert advice? Would they be recommended for axies as a snack food?

This is one of those questions where I wish I had a solid answer. Cooked meat is not much different than raw, in terms of basic nutrients. Obviously, you wouldn't want to feed an axolotl meat that has been salted, seasoned, fried, etc, as this would change the composition.

Somehow, cooked just seems odd to me. Axolotls or other sals might eat some pure muscle tissue in the wild (fish, etc.), but it would never be cooked. So my gut feeling is that cooked meat is all wrong, but I don't have any real evidence to back that up.

yes i think that makes sense- i guess i was just thinking if i was desperately out of food one nite and there was nothing else but a bit of cooked meat...??? i feel so guilty some times when they are looking at me in their tank and they can smell our dinner! I do keep pellets but they are hard and horrid. Also one of the axies has started spitting worms out- he is getting a wee bit fussy as he grows up.

Cooked chicken has a higher fat content that raw chicken flesh as the fat prevades the flesh during cooking (you woul,'t like it if it didn't as the meat would be very dry).
Cooked prawns are less of a problem, but probably have a few potential nutrients destroyed by heat, so raw is better.
Summary: occasional cooked prawns OK but not good for a staple diet.
